Rik Lomas - Web Developer

This is the portfolio site of Rik Lomas, a web developer from London, UK.

I have worked on many high profile sites for multinational companies, including Orange, The Times, Barclaycard, Freeview and Sony BMG. A selection of my work, in chronological order, can be viewed on this page.

My main skills are XHTML, CSS and JavaScript. In layman terms, the structure, visual styling and user interactions of a site. Using my accessibility- and usability-focused expertise, I can make you compelling and functional sites.

My skillset also includes PHP, MySQL, Ruby on Rails, Apache, Actionscript, XML/XSLT and knowledge of using web services. I also have a very strong grasp of the processes behind of web design and print design.

I am also a freelance technical writer for .net magazine, the UK's largest web design publication. I have written several articles and tutorials, stretching up to four pages long. I also enjoy blogging on my technology blog, rikrikrik.

London Film Festival

London Film Festival Whilst at Mook

An unobtrusive Javascript-based site for a hook-up which involved THe Times giving away free tickets for the festival. The site used then-cutting-edge Ajax for easy navigation and searching. I made both front and back ends for the site, and it was so popular that all the tickets sold out in a day.

CSS Zen Garden Self promotional

This is a style for the influential site, CSS Zen Garden, which showcases how powerful CSS can be in styling sites. My style, called Marenghi, was designed and developed by me, and works in most modern browsers.

Charlotte Church Whilst at Mook

The official site for the mouthy - but quite sexy - Welsh songstress following her conversation from opera to pop stardom with her album 'Tissues and Issues'. I made both the front and back end of the site. And sadly, I didn't get to meet her...

I was in charge of this site for two years, taking the hit count from 1,000 to 80,000 in that time. Features on the site included news, an integrated gallery and message board, and sign up systems. I also formed the VM Web Committee to help with maintainence, updates and promotion.
